StoryWalk: Reading on the Trail

Enjoy reading and the outdoors at the same time! Walk the trail with award-winning author and photographer Kathy M. Miller as the group reads the picture book “Chippy Chipmunk Feels Empathy” throughout the route. Meet in Visitor Center
The event is geared for children ages 4-10, but great for the whole family! Participants will practice using their senses to describe their surroundings. The concept of empathy will be incorporated into the walk as children learn to imagine themselves as the wildlife and elements of nature they encounter.
The Schuylkill County Reading Council provides this StoryWalk® for use within Schuylkill County. The StoryWalk® Project was created by Anne Ferguson of Montpelier, VT and developed in collaboration with the Kellogg-Hubbard Library. StoryWalk® is a registered service mark owned by Ms. Ferguson.
From 11 am – 12 pm, Kathy Miller will lead the group on the walk through Hawk Mountain’s gardens and near by trails, ending at the Visitor Center.
From 12 – 1 pm, the Chippy Chipmunk mascot will be on hand for photos, and a book signing will take place in the Visitor Center.
