Starfest Night Hike

Please check the event website before attending, to verify the details and make sure there's no change.

August 11, 2018 @ 7:00 pm

Free

Celebrate 20 years of studying the sky with Chesmont Astronomical Society at this year’s StarFest being held at our neighboring park, Hopewell Furnace National Historic Site.

Join the park naturalist at the campground contact station for a guided hike to the event. We should arrive in time to hear the keynote address by Cheif Astronomer at the Franklin Institiute, Derrick Pitts.

You will then have time to explore on your own until about 9:15pm when we will head back to the campground on night hike through the woods. Of course, the star party goes on till at least 11 pm, so you can choose to stay later if you wish! The hike back is an easy one and we will point out landmarks along the way.

Flashlights are recommended (especially if you might hike back on your own) but please respect the rules of any star party: no white light. Bring a red flashlight if you have them or we can provide red film to cover your regular light.

StarFest is dependent on clear skies so the event may be postponed due to weather. By registering for this event, we can contact you if there is a date change. For more information, and to learn about any last minute weather cancellations: https://www.chesmontastro.org/starfest-homepage/
